Dir.B - Growth & Innovation
Directorate B is one of the six scientific directorates of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). Since 1994, we promote and enable a better understanding of the links between technology, economy and society. Our mission is to provide customer-driven support to the EU policy-making process by developing science-based responses to policy challenges that have both a socio-economic as well as a scientific/ technological dimension. Our work is undertaken, mainly, at the request of other Directorates-General of the European Commission. In addition in recent years, several assignments have been carried out for the European Parliament. Directorate B collaborates closely with the other directorates of the Joint Research Centre, and multiple partners across Europe.
The Product Bureau team of the Circular Economy and Industrial Leadership Unit focuses its work on assisting DG ENVIRONMENT, DG GROW, DG ENERGY and other DGs with technical background studies on the product policy tools of the EU Ecolabel, EU Green Public Procurement, Ecodesign and the EU Energy Label for numerous product groups.

Projects of the Product Bureau
Viegand Maagøe is a highly specialised company within the field of energy efficiency in buildings, products and appliances and development and implementation of energy efficiency measures at national, European, and global level. Viegand Maagøe employs around 45 people with three offices in Denmark. Their experts provide analysis of strategies, methodologies and new technologies in the field of energy efficiency and they have a high level of knowledge about energy-related products and European and international energy efficiency initiatives. Experiences include Ecodesign and Energy Labelling preparatory studies, review studies, impact assessments and evaluations and their clients include the European Commission, national governments, energy authorities, municipalities and industry.
Intertek is a leading international provider of testing and certification services to a wide range of global and local industries and has a network of more than 1 000 laboratories and offices, employing over 38 000 people in 1 000 locations in over 100 countries. Intertek Milton Keynes is an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, UKAS certificate no. 029, and is one of Europe's leading consumer product research and testing facilities with an acknowledged expertise in performance testing of domestic appliances, consumer electronics and ICT products. Competences include testing, certification, standards developments, high knowledge on standards worldwide and detailed technical insights in products relevant for this tender. Intertek has worked with a broad range of areas relevant for Ecodesign, EU Energy Labelling and Energy Star recent years.
