The criteria development process for this product group has commenced.
The development of the EU Ecolabel for Retail Financial Products is based on the European Commission's recently adopted Sustainable Finance Action Plan and the EU Ecolabel is anticipated to contribute to the attainment of the Action Plan by encouraging investments in the sustainable economic activities.
The EU Ecolabel for Retail Financial Products is being developed by Unit B5 - Circular Economy and Industrial Leadership, as well as Unit B1 - Finance & Economy of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) Directorate B - Growth and Innovation for the Directorate General for the Environment in collaboration with the Directorate General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA) of the European Commission.
The Ecolabel will define the minimum environmental performance of this product group and will be based on the requirements of the EU Ecolabel Regulation 66/2010 with the objective of awarding the best environmentally performing financial products. Life Cycle Assessment and product oriented environmental performance assessment studies will be consulted as sources of environmental information. Environmental, safety, technical and functional aspects will also be considered during the study. Furthermore, during the EU Ecolabel development, continuous consultation is foreseen with experts and stakeholders of manufacturers, supply chain industry, consumer organizations and NGOs.
Stakeholder involvement is a crucial part of this study. Therefore if you would like to be involved in the consultation process, you can do so through the website, by registering as a stakeholder. Registered stakeholders will be regularly informed about the progress of the study, have access to preliminary results and draft documents and can respond to questionnaires and/or participate at stakeholders meetings.
