This is the project webpage of the revision of the EU Ecolabel criteria for Lubricants (Commission Decision (EU) 2018/1702 of 8 November 2018). The revision has started in fall 2026 by the Directorate General Joint Research Centre (DG JRC) for the European Commission's Directorate General for the Environment (DG ENV).
The EU Ecolabel for Lubricants promotes the production and consumption of products with a reduced environmental impact along the life cycle. The label is awarded only to the best environmentally performing products in the market.
The EU Ecolabel criteria are developed within the framework of EU Ecolabel Regulation 66/2010. The criteria are revised taking into consideration legislation, market development, technical standards and environmental aspects mainly from a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) perspective. Moreover, during the EU Ecolabel criteria revision/development process, continuous consultation is carried out with a broad group of experts and stakeholders representing all interested parties following the principles of the Sevilla Process.
The revision process is ongoing, and its end is expected by end of Q2 2028 (date to be determined). If you want to be involved in the consultation process, please register yourself as a stakeholder for this project here. Please note that contacting us via the ‘Contact us’ section of this website is not a way to register as a stakeholder. Registered stakeholders will be regularly informed about the progress of the revision.
All the documents shared as part of the EU Ecolabel Lubricants revision are accessible at the “Documents” section of this website, check tab ‘2026-2028 revision documents”.
