The revision of the EU Ecolabel (EUEL) criteria for Tourist Accommodation (Decision - 2017/175 - EN - EUR-Lex) has started in May 2025.

This project will be based mainly on the requirements addressed in Annex I of the Regulation (EC) No 66/2010 of the European Parliament and the Council of 25 November 2009 on the EU Ecolabel.

The following five tasks are foreseen:

Task 1 – Product scope definition
Task 2 – Market analysis
Task 3 – Technical analysis
Task 4 – Improvement potential
Task 5 – Elaboration of draft criteria and technical background reports

 

Deliverables:

1. Preliminary report: contains outcomes from tasks 1-4, covering:

Product definition and classification
Economic and market analysis
Technical and environmental analysis

2. Technical report including criteria proposals and supporting rationale. During the revision process, this report is improved via stakeholders' consultation and several intermediate versions are produced.

Project timeline:

The revision process is ongoing, and the vote is expected by Q2 of 2027 (date to be determined).

Stakeholder consultation (Ad-hoc Working Group meeting):

The JRC will communicate by email to all registered stakeholders the time and steps of specific consultation meetings, including instructions on how to access the working document(s) related to the milestones. All documents will be uploaded on the specific Documents section.

Registered stakeholders will receive a formal invitation to the stakeholder consultation meeting and are expected to read the working document(s) before the meeting.

In this meeting, registered stakeholders will be able to discuss openly with the JRC and among themselves on different topics of relevance for the EU Ecolabel for Tourist Accommodation services.

Registered stakeholders will have a time interval to provide written comments to the working document(s).
