Back to Projects/Products Index

The Ecodesign directive (2009) and the Energy Label regulation (2017) are the two main EU-wide mandatory policy instruments deployed in the EU for reducing the environmental impacts of products throughout their entire life cycles. In recent years, the European Commission, has implemented Ecodesign and EU Energy Labelling requirements for a wide range of products.

This website provides information about the Ecodesign/EU Energy Label Preparatory Study on the group 'high-pressure cleaners'. This product group is referred to in the Ecodesign Working Plan 2016-2019. The project is being carried out for the European Commission's Directorate General for the Environment (DG Environment) by Directorate B - Growth and Innovation of the European Commission´s Joint Research Centre (JRC Directorate B).

The Ecodesign/ Energy Labelling Preparatory Study will consist of a comprehensive analysis of high-pressure cleaners, conducted following the Methodology for the Ecodesign of Energy-related Products (MEErP). The JRC Directorate B will undertake independent, neutral, science-based research, involving stakeholder experts through a structured stakeholder working group process. The project will include the collection, processing, analysis and production of environmental, economic and technical information, conducted with additional technical support from a small consortium of independent consultants (Viegand Maagøe and Intertek)

Based on this evidence, the JRC Directorate B will support DG Environment in the subsequent stages of the decision-making process regarding the evaluation of suitable policy options for this product group.
