This is the project website for a pilot study on revising EU Green Public Procurement (GPP) criteria for "Windows and external doors". This study is being carried out by the Joint Research Centre's Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (JRC-IPTS). The work is being developed for the European Commission's Directorate General for the Environment.

The purpose of this pilot project is to revise the EU GPP criteria to have updated, clear, verifiable, justifiable and ambitious environmental criteria for this product group, based on a life-cycle approach and scientific evidence base. The GPP criteria will reduce considerably the administrative burden for economic operators and for public administrations implementing GPP. In addition, this work aims at collecting the scientific basis to develop other environmental policy tools such as EU Ecolabel or Ecodesing in the coming years. EU Ecolabel criteria will award the best environmental performance windows and external doors while the Ecodesing criteria that will set up the minimum environmental performance of this product group.
The GGP criteria for Windows and external doors are based on data from and evidence base and on information collected from stakeholders of industry, NGOs and Member States. The evidence base uses available scientific information and data, adopts a life-cycle approach and engages participants to discuss the issues and develop consensus. Two types of criteria will be proposed: the core criteria that are those suitable for use by any contracting authority across the Member States and address the key environmental impacts and the comprehensive criteria for those who wish to purchase the best environmental products available on the market.
